Mr Farrington's assembly today looked at Equality of Opportunity: something that in Britain we believe in. Everyone deserves a fair chance in life! We then looked at the life of Professor Stephen Hawking who has overcome disability to produce amazing theories about the nature of the universe. Then a child in Year 4 explained how he uses Eyegaze technology to do his writing by controlling a computer keyboard with his eyes. Finally, a boy in Reception demonstrated how some software and technology has given him a voice so he can show his understanding and communicate with his friends and family.

Our link school in Bolton
On Thursday in assembly the children were shown photos of a school in Bolton called St Thomas'. In the past two years we have written letters to children at this school and received letters back from their Years 3 and 4. We plan to send some more letters to them soon. It is important that our children learn about different parts of the UK and how children's lives are similar yet different!
We hope to arrange another visit soon by our Children's Voice to our other link school in Aldershot.

Waste Wizards
Waste Wizard Competition
In our school assembly today we were visited by Kirsten Juniper from the Dorset Waste Partnership. She set the children the challenge of entering another special recycling competition. The children were asked to make a “Wizard” out of any items that can be recycled (excluding glass) to try to win a fabulous “Eco Pack Prize”.
The children should bring their recycled Wizards to school by no later than Friday 6th February. The teachers from each class will be judging the wizards at a special assembly that we will be having (on the 6th February). Some of the winners will then be sent on Kirsten to be entered in the next stages of the competition.
After the children’s fantastic response to our “recycled Christmas tree decoration”, we are confident that we will receive some more brilliant entries for the competition this month.
