Today Mr MacBean focused upon how we can learn from being outside. the children gave lots of examples of why they enjoy learning outside, with Year 1 being particularly keen on talking about Forest Schools (this year's new initiative introduced thanks to Mrs Thorpe).
With Years 3 and 4 about to go away on residentials, Year 2 leading the way in working in our our allotment and Reception benefiting from our extensive outdoor space, it was a good time to reflect on the joys of being outside.
Here are some lovely images of the cowslips gracing our school grounds at the moment. Enjoy them before they fade!!

Visiting musicians
We were extremely fortunate
to have some amazing musicians in school on Thursday 23rd April. Led
by Hanna Trevorrow (Head of DASP Music) the group went on a musical quest
through time and musical eras to try to get their music back, which was
snatched by a witch during the Sorcerer’s apprentice music!
The children saw
many instruments being played; euphonium, trumpet, clarinet, bass clarinet,
violin, viola, cello, bass recorder, treble, descant, piccolo, piano… I’m sure
there could have been more!
Children learnt
about periods of music and were told about famous musicians who wrote the music
being played. Listening carefully and answering questions gave all the opportunity
to get the most from the session.

New displays in the classrooms
You might have noticed our new Learning Powers displays in the classroom. These are designed to help the children to develop positive learning attitudes through being Reflective, Resourceful, Resilient and Reciprocal.
St George's Day
This week Mr Farrington told the story about St George and the dragon. A link was made to our "Four B's" which are designed to help children to be more independent in their learning.
We are encouraging the children to consider what to do when they are finding some work difficult:
First, we use our BRAIN.
Next, we ask a BUDDY.
Then we use BITS and BOBS (it might be a dictionary, word mat, wall display)
Finally, we ask the BOSS (the adults there to help us to learn!)
So George sat down to think, then he used Buddy (his horse), then he put on his armour, helmet and picked up his lance and shield (his Bits and Bobs) and finally he prayed to his Boss, before tackling his dragon!

A positive future for the school
Thank you to those parents who attended Tuesday's consultation meeting about our plans to join The Abbas Federation in January 2016. We are very keen to receive more feedback from parents about this. If you have any questions, concerns or want to find out more information please send us an email, grab Mr Farrington for a chat or drop a note in the green suggestions box by the office. It may be that you want to tell us what you particularly value about our school to help us to ensure that these strengths are maintained. We really do value the views and thoughts of parents, so get in touch!
Congratulations! Bike It Big Pedal Winners!!!
I am delighted to inform you that The Prince of Wales School won the recent Bike It Big Pedal challenge. Our school recorded the most journeys to and from school using bikes and scooters of all the schools participating. Well done everyone and keep up the healthy way to get to school!
