Houses of Parliament trip

Yesterday I took Ben and Erin who are our Rights Respecting Ambassadors to The Houses of Parliament. We went with 50 other children and adults from the DASP student voice to deliver our 'Send my friend to school' campaign boxes.

After a fascinating tour we were whisked away to have pictures outside with Action for Children. Then we went back in to The Houses of Parliament and met our local MP Oliver Letwin. The student voice shared what we have been doing and why this issue is so important to us all.

South Dorset Ridgeway Project.

Today the Prince of Wales School played host to a celebration of the learning that has been done this year within the South Dorset Ridgeway Project. Children and staff from 5 other schools came to join us for a range of exciting activities. They also enjoyed a spectacular dance performed by students from Thomas Hardye School.
A special thanks to Mrs Marie McLeish for organising the event.
Our children in Year 1 and Year 3 were all involved and had a thorough enjoyable morning. Lots of visiting staff commented to me about how welcoming, enthusiastic and well behaved the children were during the event; so well done everyone!

Roundhouse News...

We have sadly been targeted again by vandals damaging our large roundhouse. We all feel really really sad about this happening to us, but on a brighter note we have been offered a helping hand. A local Thatcher has very kindly been in touch and is willing to fix our roundhouse roof. We know that parents, staff and our children are very grateful to him for his help.

Musical evening by wonderful musicians!

A huge well done to all of the children who took part in the annual Musical Soiree at the school. We were taken aback by the progress of all the children since last year and for those children who had only been learning a year. Popular music, to classical to own compositions were performed!

I can confidently say that the children's musical ability is the highest it has ever been at the school. I feel this is down to super, self motivated children as learners, supportive parents who drive the practising! Finally the experienced professionals we are lucky to have teaching music to all our instrumentalists.

We hope you enjoyed, once again thank you for your support.

Eco Schools Silver Award Assembly

Today we were presented with our Eco Schools Silver Award.
In a special assembly led by Alison Jay and Max Bishop (officers from Dorset County Council), the members of the school's Eco team were presented with the award.
Alison, in disguise as Inspector Green from the Ministry of Greeness, quizzed the children on what the school had been doing to help protect the environment and on the way we are using our school grounds effectively.

The assembly also featured Jonathan Dixon (from Sustrans) demonstrating how to make "Fruit Smoothies" using pedal power. The children had to pedal a bike to power the blender to make their smoothies.

The children were very pleased to receive the award.
We are hoping that next year we can reach the top award of "Green Flag".
Many thanks to Jonathan for running another very successful "Bike-It Breakfast" today.

Just a reminder that the children who will be playing at the school's music soiree will need music and their instruments in during the day at school for rehearsals.

Thank you!

Send my friend to school week

We have now come to the end of our 'Send my friend to school' week. All of the children have been thinking of ways to help the 58 million children in the world that still don't go to school.

The children made 2D and 3D world leaders and wrote all of their ideas of how to help children in the world to go to school. All of the DASP schools are having similar weeks and we will be sending boxes of world leaders to all of the school. On the 24th June the Student Voice will be going to The Houses of Parliament to give our MP our world leaders!
